Potential iPhone 5 announcement date

By: Daniel Chubb | September 8, 2011

For those of you that have been stuck on a remote island for most of this year, let’s recap a little. If the iPhone 5 announcement date would have been as it has for the last few years, WWDC 2011 would have been the date for all to be revealed, this did not happen.
The good news is we expect the iPhone 5 to get a release date sometime next month, which leaves it pretty obvious that an Apple event will be in September. Apple love to leave things to last minute before letting anyone know any official details on new products, and the iPhone 5 is no different.

Google Buys Zagat: Here's Why

Google Buys Zagat

Google has acquired Zagat, the review company that rates restaurants, stores, hotels and more by surveying consumers, in an effort to beef up its host of services with more and better content.
Google's Marissa Mayer, VP of local, maps and location services, announced in blog post that the Google will "collaborate with Zagat to bring the power of Google search and Google Maps to their products and users, and to bring their innovation, trust and wealth of experience to our users."
The terms of the purchase were not disclosed.
The acquisition not only underscores Google's efforts to build out its local products, but also the web company's shift to become a content provider. - full article: Huff Post

Carol Bartz exclusive: Yahoo "f---ed me over"

September 8, 2011: 11:00 AM ET

FORTUNE -- Here is what Carol Bartz thinks of the Yahoo (YHOO) board that fired her: "These people fucked me over," she says, in her first interview since her dismissal from the CEO role late Tuesday.
Last evening, barely 24 hours after Yahoo chairman Roy Bostock called Bartz on her cell phone to tell her the news, she called from her Silicon Valley home ("There are reporters at the gate… a lot of them.") to tell Fortune, exclusively, how the ax came down.
On Tuesday, Bartz was in New York, to speak at Citigroup's (C) technology conference the next day, when she was supposed to call Bostock at 6 p.m. "I called him at 6:06," she recalls. When he got on the line, she says, he started reading a lawyer's prepared statement to dismiss her.

Android Ice Cream Sandwich coming next month

September 8, 2011 |
The release date for Android Ice Cream sandwich has come much sooner than I expected, although that may be because this year has flown by with thanks to my increasingly chaotic work load (and moving house). Either way, Android Ice Cream Sandwich is coming soon, and Eric Schmidt has said that it’ll be coming in Oct/Nov of this this year. full article && photo: TB

HTC is suing Apple with patents Google transferred to it on September 1st

07/09/2011, Matthew Panzarino

HTC has filed patent infringement claims against Apple with patents that were ‘transferred’ from Google on September 1st reports Bloomberg. This transaction amounts to a gift from Google to HTC in an attempt to bolster the key Android partner’s case against Apple.
The 9 patents named in the suit originated in a collection of different mobile tech companies including Palm, Motorola and Openwave. Google took ownership of these patents within the past year. HTC almost immediately turned around and sued Apple using four of the patents, that appear to have come in the acquisition of Motorola Mobility by Google last month, in a federal court in Deleware. full article: TNW
